First Aid Courses

Course Title: First Aid Refresher Workshops
Duration: Between 2-hours and 1-day, to meet the needs of the organisation

Target Audience Holders of First Aid Certificates whose knowledge is to be refreshed prior to their next formal course
Assessment Method: Workshops may contain some or all the following:

Review of changes to protocols
Resuscitation refresher and practical session
Staged scenarios
Quizzes and other informal competitions
Teaching sessions on related subjects

Course Title: First Aid at Work Initial Course
Duration: 4 day
Venue At Brunel, your premises or off site conference facilities near you.
Target Audience Individuals who are to be regarded as designated First Aiders within the workplace
Assessment Method: 2-part practical assessment
First Aid at Work Certificate for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid)
Regulations 1981, valid of three years
Key Issues Addressed: Incident Management
Treatment of the unconscious casualty, including resuscitation
Breathing disorders
Bleeding
Causes of Unconsciousness
Fractures and other muscle and joint injuries
Burns and Scalds
First Aid related legislation

As part of the course programme, students are given the opportunity to deal with realistic First Aid scenarios

Course Title: First Aid at Work Refresher Course
Duration: 2 days
Venue At Brunel, your premises or off site conference facilities near you.
Target Audience Holders of a valid First Aid at Work Certificate awarded by an HSE approved First Aid training organisation
Assessment Method: 2-part practical assessment
First Aid at Work Certificate for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid)
Regulations 1981, valid for a further three years
Key Issues Addressed: Incident Management
Treatment of the unconscious casualty, including resuscitation
Breathing disorders
Bleeding
Causes of Unconsciousness
Fractures and other muscle and joint injuries
Burns and Scalds

As part of the course programme, students are given the opportunity to deal with realistic First Aid scenarios

Course Title: First Aid for Appointed Persons
Duration: 4 hours
Venue At Brunel, your premises or off site conference facilities near you.
Target Audience Individuals who are to be regarded as Appointed Persons within the workplace or anyone working in small staff teams who may need to give First Aid to anyone who becomes injured or ill
Assessment Method: Certificate of Attendance only awarded, valid for three years
Key Issues Addressed: Incident Management
Treatment of the unconscious casualty, including resuscitation
Choking
Bleeding
Other injuries and illnesses, relevant to the specific working environment

As part of the course programme, students are given some opportunity to deal with realistic First Aid scenarios

Course Title: First Aid for Competent Persons
Duration: 1 day
Venue At Brunel, your premises or off site conference facilities near you.
Target Audience Individuals who are to be regarded as Appointed Persons within the workplace or anyone working in small staff teams who may need to give First Aid to anyone who becomes injured or ill
Assessment Method: Ongoing practical assessment plus end of course practical and written assessment
Certificate of Competence awarded, valid for three years
Key Issues Addressed: Incident Management
Treatment of the unconscious casualty, including resuscitation
Choking
Bleeding
Other injuries and illnesses, relevant to the specific working environment

As part of the course programme, students are given the opportunity to deal with realistic First Aid scenarios

Course Title: Paediatric First Aid Course
Duration: 2 day
Venue At Brunel, your premises or off site conference facilities near you.
Target Audience Childminders, nursery workers or anyone working with young children
Assessment Method: Ongoing practical assessment plus end of course practical and written assessment
Certificate of Competence awarded, valid for three years
Key Issues Addressed: Incident Management
Treatment of the unconscious casualty, including resuscitation
Choking
Bleeding
Other injuries and illnesses, with particular focus on those associated with childhood
